Curtis’s 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Milage: 85,000
Process: Stage III
This owner has an affinity for black cars and wanted his tuxedo black Benz restored to full gloss and original luster. The gig began with a thorough walk around to review all the areas of concern; noting chips on the hood, bumper & doors which would require touch-up work. As with most black cars, this Benz suffered from heavy swirls which had to be corrected though multiple maching polishing steps. Total time required to acheive complete restoration: 12.5 hours over two days.

Clay barring is a critical part of proper detailing. Atmospheric sediment and environmental elements (such as pollen, salt, brake dust and tar) gets embedded into the clearcoat. The clay bar removes that contamination and leaves the paint feeling smooth to the touch; properly prepared for polishing or waxing. Below: the clay bar after cleaning a section of the door.

Tape protects rubber trim, emblems and crevices from being embedded with compound.

Swirls and poor reflective quality of the paint.

A surface abrasion in the door.

The abrasion is sanded and machine polished away.

The front clip is riddled with chips and pitting.

After a significant amount of touch-up, sanding and polishing, the front clip shows significant improvement.

Chips in the paint are touched-up, sanded and polished.
